Citizens' Advisory Committee

Welcome: Superintendent Brenda Longshore opened the meeting at 5:35 PM.
Roll Call:
Members present: Chet Brojek, Diane Juve, John Shoop, Joe Wright, Tiffany Green, and Trevor Murphy.
Members absent: Jason Biance, Dave Burnham, Velma Lumpkin, Curt Matthews, Maritza Telesky, and Dave Travers.
District staff present: Donna Howerton, Brenda Longshore, Mike Averyt, Frank Brown, Willie Hills, Darrell Layfield, Harry Howes, and Cindy Wester (recorder).
Approval of Minutes: John Shoop motioned to approve the minutes of May 10, 2021, and seconded by Chet Brojek. The motion passed unanimously.
Revenue Report: Assistant Superintendent Mike Averyt presented the revenue report reporting average revenue at $431,710 per year with almost $31 million total collected. General discussion ensued.
Dr. Longshore praised the committee members on the original half-cent referendum task force for their diligent and phenomenal efforts to pass the referendum.
Expenditures Report: Mr. Averyt presented the expenditures report. Many expenditures were large projects such as air conditioning, roofing, covered walkways, and students’ computers and software. Total expenditures for all projects to date are $24,283,645.74. Discussion ensued.
In other discussions under this topic, Dr. Longshore updated the committee on changing statutory language as it applies to purchasing buses with half-cent sales tax revenue. Discussion ensued.
Capital Projects Review: Mr. Averyt presented the 2021-22 capital projects review. Also included were the 2022-23 individual project lists for each school and the district office. Copies were made available to the committee. Discussion ensued.
Next Meeting: The next meeting will occur in December. A Notice of Meeting will be published and sent to committee members via email. With no other business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 6:10 PM.
