Avon Elementary students showcased their artwork at the Highlands County Fair, with several students earning awards for their art.

Students at Avon Elementary had an unforgettable experience at Bok Tower Gardens, made possible by the Southwest Florida Management District and the Splash School Grant awarded to Mrs. Kramer's science classes. The students spent the day exploring the vital importance of clean water for our environment. During the visit, they participated in a water walk to discover freshwater sources in the garden, engaged in an educational water cycle game, and used dip nets at the El Retiro Pond to learn about pond ecosystems.

This week in gifted the students applied their knowledge of the forces that affect flight (lift, drag, thrust, gravity/weight) and the physics concepts of momentum and pressure to successfully design and launch a bottle rocket.

It's Gifted Education Week! During the fall semester, our gifted students at Avon are excelling with the Big Idea - "The Ongoing Progress of Innovation," as they delve into aerospace with a curriculum that spans from historical milestones in aeronautics to hands-on learning about the forces of flight. Their exploration of flight began with ancient kites and continues to the breakthroughs of the Wright brothers, integrating scientific principles like Bernoulli's Principle that explain how lift is achieved. They participated in science stations to test Newton's Laws of Motion and learned about the forces that affect flight- lift, drag, weight/gravity and thrust. A recent field trip to the Kennedy Space Center has ignited excitement for the upcoming focus on astronautics, showcasing the evolution of space exploration from Apollo 11 to present-day innovations like SpaceX. Gifted minds truly are taking flight at Avon!
